I had the great pleasure of visiting Sugar Cookie Aηαтιηє Darkwatch as she made her final preparations for a heartfelt fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, which will be held this weekend and continue throughout the coming week.
Sugar is an enthusiastic member of the Relay for Life Team in Second Life, dedicated to raising money for the American Cancer society. Since its launch in 2005, the Second Life chapter has become one of the largest and most successful virtual fundraising events in the world, uniting thousands of avatars (users) across the globe in a common mission, to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer.
Sugar is a veritable firecracker, overflowing with energy, enthusiasm, and genuine passion for this project that holds such deep personal meaning for her.
Her partner, Julez Darkwatch, is the main builder behind this stunning region. Both Sugar and Julez tragically lost their mothers to this cruel disease. Known affectionately in real life as Glowworm and Lala, this project stands as a loving tribute to their memories. For Sugar, fundraising for the American Cancer Society is not just about raising money, it’s about keeping the memory of their mothers alive, channelling grief into hope, and creating a positive focus for the community.
The region itself was generously donated by Mr. Grant Wade of Pelicans Point Golf Course and Photoset Photography. Grant shared that he has long admired Sugar’s dedication and passion for a cause that touches so many lives, including his own. He felt she deserved a full region to bring her vision to life and offer the Second Life community a true experience of coming together for good.
✨ Highlights of the Event Region:
The Wall of Remembrance – A deeply touching tribute to Second Life residents who have lost their battle with cancer, honouring their lives and memories.
The Butterfly Meadow – A peaceful, glowing field filled with butterflies, each one symbolizing a departed loved one. It’s a place for quiet reflection, remembrance, and love.
The Auction Pavilion – Bid on donated goods and creations from talented SL residents, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
The Bingo and Games Area – Join in the fun, meet new people, and play for a cause!
The Dream Stars Butterfly Event in the Sky will be performed on November 2nd by The Dream Stars Dance Company – The Dream Stars Company unites visionary choreographers with passionate performers, all driven by the transformative power of movement. Beyond our artistic pursuits, we channel our energies into meaningful causes including Relay for Life and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Our visionary leader, noahclaus firehart, who also established the Relay-supporting Dare to Dream initiative, has cultivated a space where LGBTQ+ individuals and allies thrive together. At our core beats an unwavering commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion—principles that guide every performance and partnership.
Our shows are filled with rhythm, joy, and creativity designed to dazzle without the daze. We know that some of our dancers and fans have sensory sensitivities, so we keep the fun high but the flashing lights and particles low. Everyone deserves to enjoy the magic of live performance without discomfort, and that’s what Dream Stars is all about!

November 6th
- 4pm – DJ Wyld on the Main Stage
- 6:30pm – Join us in the meadow for the start of poetry and song with the talented Grace Loudon starting at 7pm
We will have poetry and song in the meadow with a butterfly release after the ceremony. If you would like to take a butterfly home with you then you can pay the kiosk just 50 lindens. The butterflies are pets and non breedable and do not need feeding.
