“When you don’t log on”

💔 When You Don’t Log On: A Song for the Ones Still Waiting

By Minji Onyx, SLInsiderGuide.com

There’s a kind of heartbreak that only Second Life residents truly understand—when your love stops logging on.

No goodbye, no final IM, no closure… just an empty “offline” name and a home that still remembers every dance, every chat bubble, every moment that once felt eternal in pixels.

That’s where “When You Don’t Log On” was born.

I wrote this song from that raw, quiet space we rarely talk about…the loneliness of still showing up in a world that feels half-lit without them. My avatar stands where hers once did, the home still glowing under “Always Sun,” but everything feels colder. The sky still spins, but the magic’s gone.

Second Life has a strange kind of permanence. Even when people leave, their traces remain. The objects they placed, the poses they adjusted, the music streams they set…all of it lingers, like ghosts of the love we built together. And though I’ve tried to move on, meeting new avatars and exploring new regions, nothing fills the silence the same way.

“When You Don’t Log On” isn’t just my story…it’s a love letter to everyone who’s ever waited at a Home rezz point, hoping that familiar name would show green again.
It’s for the dreamers who still believe that somewhere, maybe tomorrow, their person might return.

So, to those who’ve loved and lost in this parallel world of ours.. Because even in a digital world, heartbreak feels achingly real.
And sometimes… we just can’t move on…

Lyrics

[Verse 1]

We had a love that filled our sim,

You crashed me out but I logged back in.

We built our world from pixel dreams,

Now I walk alone those empty scenes.

we used to dance at the romance sims,

Under windlight that we textured in.

But now your name’s just “offline” gray,

And I still wait day after day.

[Chorus]

When you don’t log on, the sky feels wrong,

My world still spins but the magic’s gone.

I keep our home set to “Always Sun,”

But it’s colder when you don’t log on.

I still stand where your avi spawned,

Hoping maybe you’ll reappear at dawn.

I know I should move on…

But I can’t when you don’t log on.

[Verse 2]

I’ve tried new places, met a few,

But no one completes a world like you.

They emote in lies, played out as truth,

But I can still feel your typing too.

Our chairs still sit by the window’s glow,

Your laugh replays in the wind I know.

The tier is paid, but the spark is gone,

I’m just waiting, still holding on.

[Bridge]

Maybe real life pulled you away,

Maybe love found you in another place.

But this world still hums your melody,

And your memory is logged inside of me.

[Final Chorus]

When you don’t log on, the stars don’t shine,

my pixel hearts frozen back in time.

I still dance alone to our favorite song,

Still hoping one night you’ll log on.

Yeah I know I should move on…

But I can’t when you don’t log on.

[Outro]

I keep your photo on the shelf,

This worlds not the same all by myself.

I still love this life, but it’s half-gone…

When you don’t log on.
