Velvet Bohème

The Boho Event That Might Bankrupt Me in Style

As you may know, I don’t usually cover shopping events on my blog. (I leave that to the true fashionistas with inventories that require UN intervention.) But when I got offered a sneak peek at Velvet Bohème, launching September 1st, I thought: oh no… this is actually cool.

Why? Because it’s not just shopping. It’s shopping with a side of music, art, couches, and alcohol. And honestly, if more events gave us a comfy sofa and a glass of wine after battling fatpack decisions, I’d never log off again.

The Festival Grounds

The event is set up like a boho music festival. There’s a proper stage for live performances, eclectic décor, a photo exhibition and even food trucks with coffee, donuts, and a rum bar. (Yes, a rum bar. Because there is nothing more  “carefree bohemian” than rum-fuelled impulse purchases. I fear for everyone’s wallets.)

I did my part, of course, and emerged gloriously with a super cosy, cheerful cardigan from Zaara, hair with braids and beads from MINA Hair, and sunny yellow sandals from Promagic. Basically, I’m ready to dance in a meadow, or at least look like I might.

The Vibe

Organised by Kess Crystal (kess.seraphim) and Del Seraphim, Velvet Bohème is a two-week boho extravaganza that runs from September 1 through September 14. It’s meant to be more of a festival than a sales event,  a gathering of dreamers, makers, and people who apparently still know how to play the violin in Second Life.

Yes, you read that right. There’s live music. Real, soulful, toe-tapping, sometimes-heartbreaking music. Forget canned playlists; you’ll find actual performances in collaboration with ALTitude and Sanctum Social Club.

Highlights? Fly Kugin (violinist extraordinaire) on September 5, Steve Forrest with live vocals right after, and the lovely Mimi Carpenter on September 13. Plus DJs sprinkled throughout to keep the groove going. In short, you can shop, dance, listen, and then collapse dramatically on a sofa with a rum cocktail.

Velvet Bohème is exactly what Second Life shopping events should be more often: less “get in, grab demo, crash” and more “festival of fun, fashion, and slightly questionable life choices at the rum bar.” Whether you’re a die-hard shopaholic, a music lover, or just in it for the donuts, you’ll probably find a reason to stay longer than you meant to.

And if nothing else, join me in lobbying to normalise wine couches at all shopping events.

Where to Find It?

The event grounds aren’t open just yet, so I can’t hand you the landmark (patience, grasshopper). In the meantime, you can stalk Velvet Bohème here:
