On a recent Saturday morning, Aubryn Melody lit up Dublin’s Blarney Stone Irish Pub in Second Life with a soulful, genre-blending set of original songs and covers. She’s an amazing and seasoned music professional—looping, strumming, and singing with a voice that runs effortlessly over trills, soars into high octaves, and slides low with velvet ease.
The venue is a spot-on version of an Irish Pub. Owned by SL’s Jane Mercury, The Blarney Stone showcases many well-loved performers in a comfortable “Cheers”-like atmosphere. Saturday mornings are hosted by Dr Hikiera, a 13-year veteran of the pub, who brings a sassy yet demure style to the sets.
Aubryn’s growth as an artist is unmistakable. Guitar in hand, looper at her feet, her performances reflect years of discipline—not just musical, but also in the martial arts field. She spoke of training in kung fu for 11 years starting at age six. It’s a background that lends her stage presence a quiet power.
Known for her signature purple hair (yes, it’s long been a thing), Aubryn’s favorite instruments include guitar, piano, mandolin, and anything else she can get her hands on. Her songwriting spans heartfelt originals and cheeky covers like “I’m On a Boat,” “No Diggity,” and “Black Velvet.”

Aubryn grew up in a San Diego suburb, singing before she could talk. “I started piano at four after watching the ’60s movie “Romeo and Juliet” with my mom. I went straight to the piano and played the theme.” Guitar is now her main instrument, but she dabbles in mandolin, violin (slowly), and even a Chromaharp Chorded Zither. “Basically, if I can hold it, I’ll try to play it.”
But singing? That’s always been the heartbeat. “I started theater at eight thanks to a teacher’s nudge.” From chorus roles to leads, her confidence bloomed. “I was a shy kid—not a ‘big personality’—but years of training changed that. I earned a BFA in Theater Arts because I knew my stage presence needed work.”

Even virtual stages helped. “Second Life taught me how to convey emotion with just my voice—no gestures, no physicality.”
Her theater credits span Grace and Miss Hannigan in “Annie”, Rizzo and Frenchie in “Grease”, and both Cinderella’s Mother and Stepmother in “Into the Woods”. “Rizzo and Hannigan were my favorites—villains are just more fun.”
Aubryn’s four-octave range and genre-blending style took shape in Nashville. “My mom always wanted me to pick a genre, but I loved too many. After five years here, I found what I love to write and sing—and what fits my voice.”

She’s been writing songs as long as she can remember. “The first full one I wrote with an instrument was at 12—for a book report.”
After her BFA from Stephens College, she headed to Belmont for a second degree in Songwriting. “Douglas Corner was my first stop in Nashville. It had a legendary open mic run by Donnie Winters. I went weekly, met incredible writers, and started cowriting and gigging with them.”
One highlight: singing on the Grand Ole Opry stage at the Ryman. “It was a private party—nine of us, mostly originals, harmonizing. We rehearsed for months. Epic.”

Living in a corner apartment helps with the melodic sounds that emanate from there. “I’ve got great neighbors. One even said, ‘I love hearing your music through the walls.’”
