There are some Second Life destinations you visit, and there are others that seem to transport you somewhere else entirely.
SALEM 1692: The Halloween Experience is firmly in the second category.
From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere begins to take hold. Winding paths disappear into the darkness, weathered buildings emerge through the fog, and every corner seems to contain another carefully crafted detail waiting to be discovered. The environment has been designed to feel less like a virtual Halloween installation and more like stepping directly into a living recreation of Salem in 1692.
I recently had the opportunity to be guided through the experience by the creators, while Pandora explained the plans and features being prepared for the month-long event. What immediately stood out was the sheer amount of detail throughout the environment. The landscapes, buildings, paths, vegetation, lighting and small imperfections all work together to create an incredibly immersive setting.
The work of co-designers KaidenTray and Pandora Ceridwen Tray is evident throughout Salem 1692, with both bringing their creative vision to the experience. Together, they have crafted an environment where realism, atmosphere, storytelling, and meticulous detail work hand in hand. From crooked trees and worn paths to weathered buildings, uneven terrain, atmospheric lighting, and countless smaller touches, every area feels intentionally created to transport visitors into the world of 1692 rather than simply looking like a virtual recreation.
And then there is the story.
Welcome to Salem, 1692
The Halloween Experience transports visitors back to one of the most infamous periods in American history.
The Haunted History Tour takes visitors through the recreated environment while exploring the history surrounding seven people who were wrongly accused of witchcraft and ultimately killed.
This isn’t simply a walk through a beautifully decorated Halloween sim. The historical tour is designed to combine the environment with storytelling, allowing visitors to explore the locations while learning about the people and events represented throughout the experience.
For those who enjoy photography, the sim itself is also an attraction.
You don’t need to purchase a ticket simply to visit Salem 1692. Visitors can explore the environment, take photographs, wander the paths and discover the different areas at their own pace.
Personally, I’d recommend dressing for the period if you want to get the most out of the atmosphere. Colonial-inspired clothing isn’t required, but arriving in period attire would certainly make for some fantastic photographs and an even greater sense of immersion.
Two Very Different Experiences
For those looking for something more interactive, Salem 1692 offers two separate ticketed experiences.
Haunted History Tour — L$500
The Haunted History Tour is a guided experience through the sim, combining the recreated environment with historical storytelling.
Each ticket provides admission to one scheduled Haunted History Tour.

Live Character Haunt — L$500
The Live Character Haunt takes a darker approach.
Instead of simply exploring the history, visitors encounter live characters and scenes portraying frightening projections of events from the past. The experience is designed to make the visitor part of the story as they move through the environment.
Each ticket provides admission to one scheduled Live Character Haunt.

It is important to note that these are two separate experiences. A Haunted History Tour ticket does not include the Live Character Haunt, and a Live Character Haunt ticket does not include the history tour. Visitors wanting to experience both will need to purchase one ticket for each.
Tickets can also be purchased in-world at the ticket booth located to the left of the arrival area.
A Month of Halloween Entertainment
While the ticketed experiences provide the centerpiece of Salem 1692, they aren’t the only reason to visit.
The Halloween Experience is free to access, with additional entertainment taking place throughout the event that is also free.
The soft opening takes place Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10 AM SLT, giving visitors an early opportunity to explore the sim, photograph the environment and get familiar with Salem before the scheduled activities begin.
The main event opens October 3rd.
Entertainment already announced includes live performances, specialty shows and more.
On October 4th:
• 2 PM SLT — Coralie
• 3 PM SLT — Mimi
• 4 PM SLT — Amforte
On October 10th at 1 PM SLT, Maverick presents The Halloween Experience, a special show created specifically for Salem 1692 featuring magic and mystery.
Then, on October 18th at 1 PM SLT, visitors can experience a Halloween Burlesque show.
And that’s only part of what is planned throughout the month.
Come Explore Salem
One of the things that makes Salem 1692 particularly interesting is that visitors aren’t restricted to the scheduled activities.
You can arrive during the event’s open period simply to explore.
Walk the winding paths.
Stop for photographs.
Look inside the buildings.
Discover the dark corners.
Take in the details.
Or come back for one of the scheduled performances or purchase a ticket for one of the two interactive experiences.
Whether you’re interested in Second Life photography, historical storytelling, live entertainment, immersive roleplay or simply looking for somewhere atmospheric to spend an October evening, Salem 1692 offers several different ways to experience it.
And with the environment itself being such a significant part of the attraction, you don’t necessarily have to be looking for a scare to enjoy the destination.
Sometimes the best part is simply wandering into the fog and seeing what you find.
