The Mercury Room

Posted on

Tucked away within the vast grid of Second Life lies a charming little speakeasy known as The Mercury Room. Stepping inside feels like slipping through a hidden doorway and straight into the glamour of the 1920s. The venue features a long performance stage, twin spiral staircases, a distinctive moon-shaped bar, and—of course—a spacious dance floor that beautifully reflects the elegant décor gleaming in shades of black and gold. Softly playing in the background, the timeless voice of Frank Sinatra completes the mood as guests begin to wander in for the evening’s event.

Welcome to The Mercury Room

Tonight’s gathering is hosted by none other than the owner herself, Owl—a beautiful, full-figured blonde who is every bit as friendly as she is quick-witted. Dressed in a sweeping, low-cut purple gown, with her vintage blonde curls styled in the spirit of Marilyn Monroe, she takes her place center stage behind the microphone. She is not there to sing or perform, but to personally welcome her guests as they arrive for an evening of dancing, conversation, and laughter that flows as freely as fine wine.

Whether you are a familiar regular or stepping through the doors for the very first time, everyone is greeted with a warm hello. Within moments, you feel less like a visitor and more like an old friend who has simply dropped by for the evening. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, so whether you are eager to show off that sparkling evening gown you just bought or prefer something a little more casual, you will fit right in.

Dress for the Era

Still, if you truly want to embrace the magic of The Mercury Room, this is the perfect excuse to step back in time. Step into a pinstriped suit, drape yourself in faux fur, add a glittering gown, and don’t forget an elegant vintage cigarette holder to complete the look. Dressing the part is never required—it is simply part of the fun. At The Mercury Room, the music is smooth, the company is lively, and jokes are delightfully silly. And for a few wonderful hours, the glamour of another era comes beautifully back to life.

The Woman Behind the Events

Owl was quick to tell me that she has been creating and hosting events in Second Life since 2012. Over the years, her venue has continued to evolve, becoming home to an imaginative variety of themed experiences held throughout the sim. Each event has its own distinctive setting, atmosphere, and personality, revealing just how much creativity and care Owl puts into giving her guests something memorable to enjoy and more importantly giving everyone a chance to be part of the fun of the show.

Nude on the Moon

Among these events, Nude on the Moon – a playful futuristic experience featuring flying saucers, mysterious aliens, and plenty of out-of-this-world fun. Guests are transported far beyond the familiar elegance of the speakeasy and into a wonderfully unusual world where science fiction, fantasy, and nightlife meet beneath the stars.

Original Vintage Burlesque Shows

For those who prefer the glamour of an earlier era, Owl also presents her Original Vintage Burlesque Shows. Filled with cheeky jokes, fabulous music, dazzling costumes, and, of course, wonderfully sexy burlesque dancers, the shows offer a lively glimpse into an entertainment style that has largely faded from the modern world. The humor is mischievous, the performances are playful, and the entire production carries the irresistible sparkle of old-fashioned show business.

Tiki Tabu

Another favorite is Tiki Tabu, host/DJ Lil Behind in a quaint and colorful tiki bar where guests can dance to vintage exotic tunes while sipping cocktails served in coconuts. Surrounded by tropical décor and a relaxed island atmosphere, it is easy to imagine yourself escaping to some hidden Polynesian lounge from another time. From glamorous burlesque to elegant speakeasy evenings, Owl’s events prove that a single Second Life destination can offer an entire world of experiences.

More to Discover

These events are only a small sampling of everything she has to offer, as there are many more experiences waiting to be discovered. Because event days and times may vary depending on her availability—and perhaps a touch of creative whim—I recommend joining the venue’s group for the latest schedules and details about the events that interest you most. It is also worth noting that The Mercury Room hosts Swanky Swing Sunday every week beginning at 8 PM. And Nude On the Moon is every Wednesday at 9pm SLT. With wonderful music and a lively atmosphere, it makes for a delightful night out. I highly recommend stopping by and experiencing it for yourself!

BIO

My passions are photography, modeling, and creating here in SL. I love all forms of graphic arts, and I’m a well‑known avid shopper with a knack for finding those one‑of‑a‑kind creations. I run a small shop where I sell clothing, quirky houses, and a mix of unique items. I adore Rococo style and the Baroque eras, and some of my photography has been featured in galleries across SL, which has been a real honor. I’ve also appeared in Hush, Imagine, and Bare Society magazines — both behind the camera and in front of it. I love meeting new people across the grid, discovering new places, and finding inspiration in every corner of this world.
