Phil Setner: A Second Life Original Who Still Hits All the Right Notes
VENUE ~ All Out Music
HOST ~ Daren d’Rendare (DarenLloyd)
I’ve known Phil Setner for what feels like a Second Life lifetime. And honestly… in SL terms, it kind of is.
Phil first logged into Second Life back in 2008—yeah, the stone ages. And like a lot of the great ones, he didn’t waste time figuring out what he wanted to do. He jumped straight into performing, and he’s been doing it ever since. I’ve probably caught his shows a hundred times over the years, and one thing has never changed—he’s always entertaining, always engaging, and always right there with his audience like you’re part of the show, not just watching it.
And that accent?
Come on… you can’t not love it!
Born and raised in Edinburgh, Phil brings a natural charm to the mic that you just don’t fake. It’s effortless, it’s genuine, and it’s a huge part of why people keep coming back.
But here’s the thing—Phil isn’t just a performer.
He’s a creator. And not just a casual one.
Over a decade ago, he co-founded Why Not with his partner, Alessia Grace Aster Setner—a brand that’s become a staple in many Second Life homes whether people realize it or not. If you’ve decorated anything in SL, chances are you’ve got a piece of their work somewhere.
Alessia puts it best:
“We have differing tastes, he’s more garden based, I do a lot of the room settings, etc.”
That balance shows. Their work has range, personality, and that lived-in feel that separates good design from great design.
And because apparently just performing and running a successful brand isn’t enough—they’ve also launched their own shopping event this year: Diversify. Another layer added to an already stacked resume.
As Alessia says:
“He still tries to sing in SL as much as possible, even though we are busy with events.”
Tries, she says… like he hasn’t been consistently showing up and delivering for years.
A Night at All Out Music
Standing inside All Out Music, the vibe hits you immediately.
Dark walls. Neon everywhere. The kind of glow that makes everything feel alive. Colorful bubbles drift down across a pulsing, octagon-lit dance floor while the room moves to the beat.
And then Phil starts singing.
This time, it’s a Chris Haines track—“I Wanna Fall in Love.”
And yeah… even after all these years, it still catches you off guard.
His voice fills the space in a way that cuts through everything else—the lights, the movement, the chatter. For a few minutes, the whole room just locks in.
That’s what he does.
More Than the Resume
Phil’s a busy guy. Performer. Creator. Event organizer. Brand builder.
But strip all that away, and what you’re left with is something simpler—and honestly more important.
He’s just a genuinely great guy.
The kind of person who still makes time to chat, laugh, and connect with people, no matter how packed the schedule gets. And in a world like Second Life, where it’s easy to get lost in the noise, that matters.
