The Voice Behind VSide-Radio and a Friend to Second Life
Song “When the grid goes quiet” By Samual Wetherby
The Second Life music community has lost one of its familiar voices.
For well over a decade, DJxScotsPaul, better known throughout the grid simply as ScotsPaul, became a recognizable name behind the microphone and behind the scenes. Through VSide-Radio, he helped connect venues, DJs, performers, and listeners from around the world, creating a place where music wasn’t simply streamed—it was shared as an experience.
Since launching VSide-Radio in 2014, ScotsPaul devoted countless hours to building a station that welcomed everyone. Whether listeners tuned in from a bustling nightclub, a quiet beach, or while building in their skybox, VSide-Radio became part of the soundtrack of Second Life.
For many residents, hearing “VSide-Radio” meant hearing ScotsPaul.
His passion extended far beyond pressing the play button. He supported live performers, encouraged new DJs, promoted community events, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep broadcasts running smoothly. Those efforts rarely sought recognition; they were simply part of who he was.
One of the most meaningful chapters of his virtual life was his partnership with Aimee LeShelle (AimeeScotspaul LeShelle).
Together they shared a love of music that resonated throughout the Second Life entertainment community. Aimee’s live performances, spanning classic country, rock, folk, Broadway, and timeless favorites, found an enthusiastic supporter in ScotsPaul, who not only managed many aspects of her Second Life performances but remained her biggest fan and strongest advocate. Their partnership reflected a shared belief that music has the power to bring people together regardless of where they live in the real world.
Every virtual world is built from pixels and code, but communities are built by people.
ScotsPaul understood that perhaps better than most.
Radio stations are often taken for granted. Listeners hear the music but rarely see the countless hours spent maintaining servers, scheduling programming, troubleshooting technical issues, supporting broadcasters, and making sure the music never stops. ScotsPaul quietly handled those responsibilities while giving countless residents a dependable place to gather, celebrate, dance, and make memories.
For DJs, he was a fellow broadcaster.
For venue owners, he was a trusted partner.
For singers and entertainers, he was a supporter of live music.
For listeners, he was simply a familiar friend whose voice became part of everyday life in Second Life.
The legacy of VSide-Radio reaches far beyond playlists. It helped introduce performers to new audiences, gave communities a shared soundtrack, and reminded us that friendships formed in virtual worlds are every bit as meaningful as those formed anywhere else.
As anyone who has spent years in Second Life knows, we may never meet many of our friends face-to-face, but we celebrate together, laugh together, dance together, and sometimes mourn together. ScotsPaul was part of thousands of those moments.
His kindness, dedication, and commitment to the community leave behind a legacy measured not in broadcasts or statistics, but in the lives he touched.
Today we remember not only the DJ behind the microphone but the man who helped keep a community connected through music.
To Aimee, his family, his friends, his fellow DJs, and everyone at VSide-Radio, the entire team at SLInsiderGuide.com extends our deepest condolences.
Though the music pauses for a moment, the memories never will.
Rest peacefully, ScotsPaul.
Your voice may have faded from the airwaves, but your impact on the Second Life community will continue to echo for years to come.
From ScotsPaul About his SL Family
In pixel skies where dreams take flight,
I found a home of love and light.
With Aimee, heart forever true,
We built a world for me and you.
Rosie’s laugh, like morning sun,
Sunrise shines when day’s begun.
Midnight brings a calming grace,
A starry smile on every face.
Rachel’s warmth, a guiding flame,
Dave’s bold spark, a wild name.
Candy’s joy is sugar-sweet,
While Poca dances on moonlit feet.
Angel sings with heaven’s cheer,
Adam brings the thunder near.
Each one a gem in life’s great game,
Each one I love and proudly name.
We’re more than avatars on screen,
We’re family in this shared dream.
And every day, I thank the sky
For my Second Life — and reasons why.
Editorial: A Personal Goodbye
By Samual Wetherby, Publisher, SLInsiderGuide.com
I was deeply saddened to wake up this morning and see post after post from so many friends remembering ScotsPaul. Then I saw the “In Loving Memory of ScotsPaul” tribute shared by Arisha Flame of AudioHouse, and it stopped me in my tracks.
It’s one of those moments you wish wasn’t real.
Over the past several years, our Second Life community has said goodbye to far too many remarkable people. Every time it happens, we’re reminded that behind every avatar is a real person with a real life, a real family, and real friendships. The names may appear on a screen, but the relationships we’ve built are anything but virtual.
ScotsPaul was no exception.
For more than a decade, he was the heart and soul behind VSide-Radio. While many people knew the service, those who spent time around it knew the man behind it. He wasn’t someone who sat back and watched from the sidelines. If someone had a streaming issue, needed technical advice, or simply didn’t know where to start, ScotsPaul was often the first person to answer. Time and again, you’d see him jump into his group chat to help someone—sometimes before anyone else even had a chance to respond.
That willingness to help defined him.
Over the years, I had the pleasure of speaking with ScotsPaul several times over voice. If you were fortunate enough to have one of those conversations, you probably remember his wonderfully thick Scottish accent. It wasn’t something you forgot. There was an authenticity and warmth in his voice that immediately put people at ease. You could hear his passion for radio, his love of the community, and his genuine desire to help others succeed.
In a world where it’s easy to focus on competition, ScotsPaul focused on community.
The Second Life entertainment world can sometimes feel like a small town. DJs, venue owners, singers, bloggers, photographers, and listeners all cross paths sooner or later. ScotsPaul understood that when one person succeeds, the community grows stronger. He shared his knowledge freely, encouraged newcomers, and never seemed too busy to lend a hand.
Those are the people who quietly become the foundation of a community.
They don’t ask for recognition. They don’t seek the spotlight. They simply show up, day after day, making life a little easier and a little better for everyone around them.
That’s the legacy ScotsPaul leaves behind.
To Aimee, his family, his friends, the VSide-Radio team, and everyone whose lives he touched, please know that you are in our thoughts. Your loss is shared by an entire community that is mourning alongside you.
Rest easy, my friend.
Thank you for every stream you kept alive, every problem you solved, every conversation you shared, and every person you helped along the way.
You made Second Life a better place than you found it, and that’s a legacy that will never be forgotten.
A Community Remembers: “He Was Always There”
As news of Scotspaul’s passing spread throughout the VSide-Radio community, the response was immediate and heartfelt. Friends, family, DJs, venue owners, and longtime customers came together with an overwhelming outpouring of love, gratitude, and remembrance.
The words shared painted the picture of a man who was far more than the owner of a streaming service. To countless people across Second Life, Scotspaul was the friendly voice who answered questions, solved problems, offered encouragement, and never hesitated to help.
Many described him simply as:
- “A good man.”
- “A great man.”
- “The best.”
- “A very caring man.”
- “A dearest friend.”
- “Always super helpful.”
His willingness to support others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Whether helping DJs get their streams running, answering technical questions, or simply checking in on friends, he became someone the community could always count on.
One memory shared by Duncan Falconer perfectly captured who Scotspaul was:
“He was always there to help anyone, no matter if you were a customer of VSide or not. One of the kindest and best men you could ever meet.”
Duncan recalled renewing his own VSide stream when another resident walked into the store needing help. Believing they needed to purchase a new stream, they asked Scotspaul for assistance. Instead of making a sale, Scotspaul patiently diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and sent them on their way without charging them a penny.
As Duncan reflected:
“He could have told them yes and sold them a stream, but that just wasn’t the kind of man he was.”
That simple act of honesty left such an impression that Duncan never considered switching to another streaming provider—even one that cost less. For him, loyalty wasn’t built on price; it was earned through trust, integrity, and genuine kindness.
Messages of sympathy quickly filled the group:
“My deepest condolences to all of Scotspaul’s family.”
“My prayers go out to his family and friends.”
“He definitely will be missed.”
“Rest in peace.”
“Sending prayers to Scot’s family and friends.”
Several members reflected on just how fortunate they were to have known him.
“We are blessed to have shared such an amazing person.”
His mother shared one of the most touching tributes of all:
“RIP my son. I will miss you dearly. You have always been there for your father and me, even when you were extremely busy. You were a very caring man who will be missed by many. You are gone, but your spirit and memories will always remain.”
Friends also found comfort in believing that his legacy would continue long after his passing.
“He will forever be in the music we play every day and in our hearts always.”
“He isn’t gone. He will always be in our hearts.”
Perhaps the most fitting tribute came from those who knew him best. Rather than mourning in silence, they reminded everyone that Scotspaul never wanted sadness to define his memory.
As Mandy Vortex shared, Paul wanted live singers, friends together, laughter, and music. He wanted a celebration of life.
Because if there was one thing everyone agreed on, it was this:
Scotspaul loved a good party.
And that’s exactly how the VSide family intends to remember him.

He was an awesome person. Never had a bad word to say about anyone. Always kind whenever I saw him on sons. Whenever I saw him. I will never forget him. Nor his kindness shown.
