HORROR ASYLUM RETURNS: New Nightmares Await

WELCOME TO NEW NIGHTMARES

There are certain places where the phrase “come on in” feels less like an invitation and more like a warning.

Horror Asylum is back!

This year, ϯTýr Thørstëïnsën ϯ (gustavlemort) has added a Church and a Cornfield, because apparently the asylum didn’t already have enough opportunities for visitors to question the charge on their flashlights. My personal favorite, however, remains – Mama in the Kitchen—a charming little domestic scene that demonstrates what happens when “home cooking” takes a turn toward the homicidal. And for those who believe every good exploration field trip moment should include an educational component, there’s a chance to attend class with the children. I’m not entirely certain what they’re teaching, but judging by the surroundings, “how to survive the school year” probably isn’t on the curriculum.

THE DISTURBING MIND

Then there is Týr himself—the man responsible for assembling this collection of questionable horrors and calling it entertainment. Fortunately, he is much friendlier than the environments he’s created and is always happy to talk about his genuine love of horror movies. This year, his favorite is Obsession—which seems fitting for the man behind an asylum. Because apparently, even when you’re surrounded by ghosts, demons, and enough questionable medical equipment to make OSHA nervous, there’s still room for a little nod to other cinematic movies. Spend enough time talking with him and you’ll realize Horror Asylum isn’t just a collection of spooky scenery and creepy corners. It’s a genuine love letter to horror itself—a place built by someone who doesn’t just enjoy the genre, but wants you to step inside, get uncomfortable, and maybe discover a few nightmares of your own.

EXPLORE AND BEWARE

So go ahead—explore the graveyard, wander into the common area, and observe the patients who encounter Silent Hill like nurses with what can only be described as questionable medical techniques. Stop by the room of rituals for those who have chosen to place their trust in Satan, and, if you’re feeling particularly ambitious, try your hand at outrunning a demon or two. Just don’t expect the hallways to be empty. They may be covered in cobwebs, but make no mistake—nothing about Horror Asylum is dormant.

THINGS MOVE, THINGS WATCH

And occasionally, things appear to have a schedule. So explore at your own pace, keep your eyes open, and remember the first rule of visiting places like this: if you hear something behind you, don’t run. Whatever it is, there’s probably a very good reason it’s following you. And if there isn’t… well, that’s what makes this a horror experience worth visiting every year!
